“So much of investing is just about successfully ignoring distractions. Distractions that pull you off course and taint your focus.”
This was just one of the many standouts for me in this article. The art of ignoring distractions is such a crucial art. Our mind tends to wander--we love to imagine what-ifs and what-could’ve-been! So staying cognizant yet flexible (perhaps influenced by productive worrying) is so much better than being tossed around by the ocean of endless data, news, reports, earnings, etc.
Hey Harold, thank you for reading and taking the time to comment. I read that book for the first time earlier this year while in India. Such a simple, concise, yet powerful book of lessons.
Took a peek at Koyfin just now, and wondered if there exists a Practice Platform for timid (fearful) first time investors to play around with their money before taking a plunge. Just asked hubs, and he says “I’m sure that exists somewhere, I’ll have a look around...” He’s across the brkfst table, poking around on his phone. Having just prayed for one of our kids who is sitting on a sum, “not yet ready to play,” we should’ve thought of that b4. Hubs just announced, “Found one on TDAmeritrade, called Think or Swim.” Thoughts?
So TD and Think or Swim are brokerages, which may offer artificial money accounts to test investing without parting with money. I am not super familiar with either as we don't have those brokerages in the UK.
Koyfin is not a brokerage, it's a data terminal. So, a place where investors go to find information, filings, charts, earnings, forward estimates, build dashboards, watchlists, do screening, etc.
Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Very well said. Most people voluntarily jump from the calm still waters into the violent ones.
Excellent essay! I tend towards worrying and your thoughts on productive v unproductive really resonate.
Appreciate it, and please to hear from you Brian!
How have you been?
Great article Conor, your intro reminded me of chapter five in The Most Important Thing

Have a great weekend.
“Paper Money” is the practice component for the App Think or Swim... I guess.
