I have argued for a long time, not necessarily correctly or fairly, that the greatest prerequisite for consistent, long-term success as an investor is a background in Humanities (rather than a specialized field, Finance included). Consilience pretty much sums up my broad view in a single word.
You, Conor, challenge my argument in a less obvious way. You are young yet curious, your mind roams far and afield and you strive to fit your wide learning into your consuming passion, investing. I suspect you, unlike most people who pursue investing as a career, or even as an avocation, will prove one of the few people who can prove successful at the pursuit. Note I said "can" rather than "will" because you, I suspect, also will struggle with the suffocating constraints of being 'only' a successful investor. After all, life itself is broad and large and encompassing - and your curiosity seemingly knows no bounds. I am old now but in the time left to me it will be fun to see what you get up to. Excelsior!
As always, really appreciate the time you take to read (and comment on) my articles, David. It's always a pleasure to see your name drop into the comments. Thank you very much.
